What does one do when the power goes out for 3 1/2 days? Crochet!! Due to a storm many people and businesses lost power for several days. I took advantage of not having power to CROCHET!</div>
<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: center;">
These fun cocoon cardigans are perfect to layer. They are just right for most fall, winter, spring and even chiller summer evenings. </div>

The Details: The cardigan pictured above is made from 100% acrylic yarn. The main color is made in a violet color and the trim in med. grey. Because of the relaxed styling of this garment, it should fit from a women's size Medium to XXL. The lovely model normally wears a women's size large in most clothing items. This particular cardigan measures about 47" from cuff through center back/front to the other cuff on both the front and back. It measures about 45" long measured from the neck to the bottom.</div>

Hello! I hope everyone is FANTASTIC! Can you believe it's almost the end of October? I love this time of year, in part because I look forward to Purse Palooza. I get inspired seeing all the great pattern reviews and awesome bags. I learn something new every year. Sara is a genius for creating and organizing this event. Thank you Sara!</div>
<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: center;">
I am Ree and I blog at <a href="http://www.sincerelyree.blogspot.com/">Sincerely, Ree.</a> I began crafting with paper crafts when my children were little. It was a way for me to maintain my zen...if you will. Eventually, the fabric bug caught me and I haven't been the same since....wait. :) Oh! I'll just leave it there. Anyway, my children are now teenagers. I do still like paper crafts and I continually try to use my supplies for both sewing and paper crafts. That's how I justify my purchases anyway (ahummm.....and the waaaay too many "craft room" boxes that have moved with us over the years). </div>
<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: center;">
My blog has been neglected lately. It's been one of "those" kind of years. Right now, we are in the middle of a move that just won't quit. After moving in we realized that getting an Internet connection to the house would be more difficult than we thought. We'd been without an Internet connection for quite a while. Finally, we were able to have it installed a few days ago. Whoo HOO!<br />
I'd been going through sewing withdraw when Sara asked if I'd do a pattern review for Purse Palooza. What a great excuse to dig out my sewing machine...then search through the boxes marked "garage tools" for the power cord. Oh, yaaa! Gotta love moving! </div>
<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: center;">
On to the point of this post--a pattern review. I stumbled across this free Japanese bag pattern online. If you are like me and don't know how to read Japanese, HAVE NO FEAR! Follow the link and it will explain how to find and download the pattern. <a href="http://www.japanesesewingbooks.com/2013/05/20/free-japanese-sewing-patterns-seria/">Free Japanese Sewing Pattern</a>. There are illustrations included in the instructions that are pretty easy to understand. I sewed mine together a little bit differently than the pictures show. I'll attempt to explain how I put this bag together. I hope you take the time to sew this cute little bag. It is the perfect size for a little gift bag for a gift card, jewelry, candy, or even a bag for a little girl. <br />

<br />
<br />
This is a pretty quick project. I think it took me less than an hour total.<br />
It is not a very big bag either. My finished bag is about 4.5" tall, 11" wide and 5" deep. The inner circle of the handle has about a 3" diameter. </div>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">I re-purposed a pair of cargo pants and scrap fabric to make this bag.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
As mentioned earlier, I sewed the bag together a little different from the illustrations. I HATE having to press in seam allowances in an arch without sewing it first. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
To begin, print the pattern out on regular 8.5" x 11" paper. I did not enlarge it at all before printing. However, before cutting out the bag pattern piece from the paper I drew 1/2" seam allowance around the ENTIRE bag shape (see picture below). I then cut out 2 outside pieces and 2 lining pieces on the fold. I decided not to use any interfacing. It is small enough and the material I used thick enough that it stands up on it's own without the interfacing. Even though I allowed for a 1/2" seam allowance (steps above), I sewed my bag together with a 1/4" seam allowance. </div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">The pattern piece with 1/2" drawn around the entire shape of the pattern piece. Then cut out two outside and two lining pieces on the fold. </td></tr>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Mark and sew the darts on each corner of all four cut pieces. Take one outside piece and press the darts toward the top. Then on the other outside piece press the darts toward the bottom or center. Pin the outside front and back pieces together matching darts and bag center. Sew the outside back and front pieces together along the bottom (half circle). Repeat these steps for the lining except leave an opening for turning centered at the bottom. Press seams open. You can also clip your curves if you'd like. Shhhh....I did not.</div>

Now it's time to sew the lining to the outside. With the outside right side out and the lining wrong side out, put the outside inside the lining matching side seams, handles and front and back centers. Pin along the top curves. Before you begin sewing, mark the handles 1" down from the top edge on each of the four handles (see pic. below). This line is where you will begin and end stitching.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjsOo6JzJ8Y-9W02olwSBi2ZL13whsNcrzLD93N9A4-IwUBjX5nI3OHmgGrOj-FzZ67HiQNy4tINQ5ieCgmn_H621BqWaE1ClhYURPMwLRTBCDIg2A8xE1XGzUKdAgC-5_y-hkfsvyhmf3M/s1600/20150925_171557.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"> <img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjsOo6JzJ8Y-9W02olwSBi2ZL13whsNcrzLD93N9A4-IwUBjX5nI3OHmgGrOj-FzZ67HiQNy4tINQ5ieCgmn_H621BqWaE1ClhYURPMwLRTBCDIg2A8xE1XGzUKdAgC-5_y-hkfsvyhmf3M/s640/20150925_171557.jpg" /> </a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Using only 1" on this step did make some steps a little challenging a little later on. If you'd like, you could make the starting and stopping mark a little further from the top edge of the handle. Sew the lining to the outer bag by sewing along the top center curves and side curves starting and stopping at the mark you made (see stitching in picture below).</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjcCf1lpI12v_BktNW938mbJZ4LlCBkd6Vgmpc4hkGiX9Mxw8Wz6Aq0ZAKQkJlbkp3A7l0u-tQj4LHcPO8ev82a5veZHruxE-SWX2B7i4t6STwMppEV9LdzcJ04r90BAcEbERM43sTExK_m/s1600/20150925_172528.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"> <img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjcCf1lpI12v_BktNW938mbJZ4LlCBkd6Vgmpc4hkGiX9Mxw8Wz6Aq0ZAKQkJlbkp3A7l0u-tQj4LHcPO8ev82a5veZHruxE-SWX2B7i4t6STwMppEV9LdzcJ04r90BAcEbERM43sTExK_m/s640/20150925_172528.jpg" /></a> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Clip all your curves and turn your bag right side out through the opening in the lining. Make sure to pull all the handles completely out. Remember the top of the handle is still unsewn. Press all along the top of your bag and handles making sure to turn under and press the seam allowance on the top unsewn part of the handles. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiwzOF3CVYAF6CQonQnvRo1uTVNnLAz8m3_NlUndn_VcaYqkeawFMOUpAaVvCbYZJpXdIrSJ4mt5SvhoidE0_UFt2RyfoKWRDR-7pwLPnxBxt1n3S0xTZ09IcMUlFNK4r_RMVhuUbryxFPU/s640/20150925_174050.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" /></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Sew the each side of the handle together. </td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;">
To sew the handles together, take two of the outer handles that are on the same side of the bag and pin them. Make sure that they are not twisted, right sides are together and all pressed edges are open flat (look at how I sewed this step in the pic above). Repeat this with the lining. Again make sure the lining handles are not twisted, right sides together and all pressed edges open flat. This is where leaving only 1" got a little difficult, but I was still able to sew them together. Repeat these steps on the other side of the bag. Press the handle center seams (that you just sewed) open on each side for both lining and outside.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhymoYDhW-NtyX5Fj5V47mYEXKVMf5WF5TtjhKDr31VMpxwcCH5qtBY64VTTX3E833D2rDy02UQlyjmqefJ-7NiN2K2PbOtRYzkDBwYh2K0c-uOtY0PHDlXfmtqBnzy9eg9EJPR2WyhMFN4/s1600/20150925_175703.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"> <img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhymoYDhW-NtyX5Fj5V47mYEXKVMf5WF5TtjhKDr31VMpxwcCH5qtBY64VTTX3E833D2rDy02UQlyjmqefJ-7NiN2K2PbOtRYzkDBwYh2K0c-uOtY0PHDlXfmtqBnzy9eg9EJPR2WyhMFN4/s640/20150925_175703.jpg" /> </a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Now, fold under the seam allowances of the outside and lining handle. Close the opening in the handle by edge stitching around the handle on the front of the bag. Repeat for the back of the bag (picture above).</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_G_8bblc5mU7h_FkcUvD1eRhnpKltf9_NTMjfdAqdRj6zbavPbEUPA1irQGeWe7JTDoLVPSDKCuXWo0D0lLXMuyITHiUh_Ub3I-IlbWZIpr0cSwBWSL7NEFNcClJhjyOxJ9GLix21jPDn/s1600/20150925_180143.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"> <img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_G_8bblc5mU7h_FkcUvD1eRhnpKltf9_NTMjfdAqdRj6zbavPbEUPA1irQGeWe7JTDoLVPSDKCuXWo0D0lLXMuyITHiUh_Ub3I-IlbWZIpr0cSwBWSL7NEFNcClJhjyOxJ9GLix21jPDn/s640/20150925_180143.jpg" /> </a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Now edge stitch around the opening in the center of the bag. It is the other side of the handle and includes the sides and center of the bag.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
At this point your bag could be complete, after you close the opening left in the lining. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I, however, decided to mess with my handles a little more. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijarwjSrNG4Gj-P46Bu-BFPUakiW1kxkBhNlFaNE9lO9fTcA_N3XhI79fW9uh1LGyaHvYKmEN2E859HyIp_jCrIrALisboyJ371UfL8UzgDLY7EnB54Zjh79TjAxc2j9nX-mmtPG2-TS0v/s1600/20150925_180434.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"> <img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijarwjSrNG4Gj-P46Bu-BFPUakiW1kxkBhNlFaNE9lO9fTcA_N3XhI79fW9uh1LGyaHvYKmEN2E859HyIp_jCrIrALisboyJ371UfL8UzgDLY7EnB54Zjh79TjAxc2j9nX-mmtPG2-TS0v/s640/20150925_180434.jpg" /> </a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I folded one side of my handle in half matching edge stitching lines. I measured and marked 2.5" on each side of the center stitching line. I followed my previous edge stitching and began sewing the handle starting at one 2.5" mark, past the center handle seam and ending at the 2.5" mark on the other side. I repeated these steps for the handle on the other side of the bag. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Voila! This cute little bag is complete! I think this pattern would be easy to enlarge. I love the shape of it! There are so many things that can be added such as pockets or closures that make this a fun little bag to play around and use scraps on. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
ENJOY!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Please ask if you have any questions. Thank you for your kind comments.</div>

Here is another Working Girl Laptop Bag. The pattern was designed by <a href="http://www.craftsy.com/pattern/sewing/accessory/working-girl-laptop-bag/67676?NAVIGATION_PAGE_CONTEXT_ATTR=PATTERN">Anna of Charmed Liebling</a>. The bag looks sleepy...hummm. It's leaning because I didn't "stuff" the bag before taking the pic. I was in a hurry because I needed to get this bag in the mail. </div>

This is the Donna Bag. The pattern is from <a href="http://swoonpatterns.com/">Swoon Patterns</a>. It is the first pattern in the Vintage Subscription. If you don't want to buy in to the entire subscription, you are able to purchase the patterns individually. However, the subscription is a GREAT DEAL!!! <a href="http://www.sincerelyree.blogspot.com/2015/05/julie-bag.html">The Julie Bag</a> was the second pattern released in this subscription. </div>

I added the zippered pocket on the back. But followed the pattern for everything else. There is a great slip pocket on the front and a zippered pocket inside as well as a zippered closure. </div>

This bag is such a cutie! It is a smaller sized handbag....but not too small. The handles, as made in the bag pictured, will not fit over a shoulder. They are for holding by hand or over the arm only. A longer strap could easily be added, if needed. </div>

Wow! I have neglected my blog! Yes, I guess I did fall off the face of the earth for a while. YIKES! I really haven't been able to sew or do any sort of crafts for awhile. That does not make me a happy person.<br />
Anyway, this bag is made with a new pattern from the fantastic <a href="http://swoonpatterns.com/">Swoon Patterns</a>! This is the second bag from the Vintage Pattern Subscription. Called the Julie Bag. So, far I love these vintage bag patterns! I just realized that I haven't posted the bag I made from the first pattern in the subscription. I love that bag, too!</div>

I made a few very slight changes...I added a magnetic snap closure and I glued in a piece of Pellon 70 to the bottom to help the bag keep its shape. <br />
Oh, ya I added the bow, too. I'm still not certain on the bow...it's removable. <br />
I'm in love with the shape of this bag. So cute! <br />
The pattern was easy to follow and went together quickly. The only part that gave me trouble were the handles. Mine didn't want to cooperate. One just flat out refused to play nice, but I forced it to work in the end. ;)</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I guess this isn't necessarily my favorite children's story book. It was my son's when he was little...he is not so little any more. He LOVED anything to do with fire trucks or fire men. At school they had made paper "Sparky" hats. We couldn't get him to take it off. Eventually fell apart, so we had to make him one out of fabric. Meanwhile, I ordered him a Scholastic Book from School. I believe the book is called Fire Truck! It is a storybook and song. However, we only had the storybook. <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Sing-Read-Ivan-Ulz/dp/0439722128/ref=sr_1_2?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1414806357&sr=1-2&keywords=fire+truck+fire+truck+I+want+to+ride+in+a+fire+truck">Here is a link</a>. To this day we still recite pieces of this book to him. LOL! </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I guess that's all for Hope You Can Cling To for this year! I can't believe I made it another year! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Have a great night!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here is the inside of the case. I love all the pockets around the side and the big zip pocket on the lid.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I only made few changes to the bag. I wasn't able to find a 32" zipper in the color was I was looking for. However, I did mange to find a 30" zipper. So, I made the bag tab piece a few inches longer. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I used home décor fabric for the exterior fabric and quilt fabric for the inside. For the lining pieces, I used SF-101. In place of the Soft and Stable I used automotive headliner---I think that's what it is. I bought it at Joann's. I did use Peltex #70 on the inside of the top and bottom. I felt it needed a little more stability for when items are inside the case. It could be because of the larger size of the bag. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This pattern comes in three sizes. This is the largest size. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Go visit <a href="http://www.sewsweetness.com/">www.sewsweetness.com</a> to purchase this great train case pattern. </div>

We are to use at least one pink balloon on our card. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I sponged over a Studio Calico- Chevron Mask for the background. I cut the balloons with my Cricut-Alphalicious Cartridge. </div>
Attached twine....quick and easy. <br />
<br />
I suffered a paper crafting injury while making this card. My very sharp pointed scissors fell onto my leg. I tried to catch them but ended up shoving them deeply into my leg. UGGG! I'm sure I'll be fine. <br />

<br />
Are you all enjoying Purse Palooza 2014, so far? I have been loving every minute! There are so many talented bag makers and great patterns. I look forward to this event every year. I even began to mark it on my calendar. I'm very grateful that Sara had the awesome idea to organize this event to showcase bag making. <br />
<br />
The pattern I chose to review is the Integral Bow Clutch Pattern designed by Constructivism. This pattern can be purchased and instantly downloaded by following <a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/82864806/sewing-pattern-bow-clutch-purse-digital">this link</a> to ConstructivPattern's Etsy Shop.<br />
<br />

</tbody></table>
I chose this pattern because I LOVE the look of this bag! All of the pictures I saw of the finished bag look professional. It is the perfect size to use for girls night out, dressy or casual event. It all depends on the fabrics you use. It will hold a credit card, ID, keys, chap stick and sunglasses. "The finished clutch will measure approx. 29cm (11 1/2") long x 14 cm (5 1/2") wide x 5cm (1 3/4") depth at the base." that is from the pattern description. If you've ever read my blog or looked at any of the bags I've made, I usually add some kind of embellishment--lately it has been bows. Need I say more?<br />
<br />

Often when I look at bag patterns, I try to pick a pattern that I couldn't make on my own or it includes details on some technique that I want to learn. I could not figure out how the bow is integrated into the body of this clutch. Do you want to know how it is done? I quote "The fabric is pieced together and gathers up to form the bow, like a perfectly wrapped gift!" Yes, It is!!! The bag is structured and has a zipper closure. I added the wrist strap. It is not included in the pattern.<br />
<br />
There are several pattern pieces included in this pattern. Eleven to be exact. I know that sounds like a lot especially given the bag size. I PROMISE it sounds and looks way more intimidating to make than it actually is. <br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Integral Bow Clutch Back View</td></tr>

<br />
<strong>The key to successfully making this pattern is to follow the included "Print and Cut" pattern piece instructions. Yep, that includes pulling out that X Acto (type) Knife. Then make sure you make all the marks on all of your pattern pieces....even the sewing lines. This will make sewing this bag a breeze!</strong> <br />
<br />
I really like the instructions provided on how to cut the interfacing. This is the method I sometimes use when I sew with slick or slippery fabrics. However, I must admit that I made one bag by first tracing all of the pattern pieces and markings onto the back (non-fusible side) of the interfacing. Then I cut out the interfacing pieces. Finally, I fused the interfacing pieces to my fabric. I think I had slightly less waste this way. <br />
<br />
The pattern suggests using a firm heavyweight non-fusible stabilizer for the front and back panels. I used Pellon #70. It also suggest using a mid-weight fusible woven interfacing (Shape Flex 101). I used Pellon 950F. When using Pellon #70 in this bag, it is not difficult to sew with because there is a pattern piece included that has the markings that are needed and excludes the seam allowances. This allows for easy sewing and turning. Hemming tape is used to adhere the Pellon #70 panel to the back fabric panel. You sew directly on the front Pellon panel to make the bow. <br />
<br />
As for the sewing difficulty level, the pattern designer states that "I aim to create clear, professional, detailed PDF patterns & step-by-step tutorials with loads of photos & diagrams." This is exactly how I would describe this pattern and instructions. They are very clear precise and include lots of pictures and enough details with out having too many details (does that make sense?). For this reason, I would think that even beginner could follow along to make this bag. If you are a beginner and still question it, take a moment to read other reviewers comments in the Etsy Shop. Several of them made this bag having little sewing experience. <br />
<br />
There is a brief explanation on how to make the bow piece longer, if you wish to do so. I did not extend the bow on either of the bags I made. <br />
<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Integral Bow Clutch inside of bag with slip pocket to hold credit card and or ID. </td></tr>
</tbody></table>
The inside of the bag is fully lined and includes one slip pocket. On the bags I made I slightly modified this pocket. I made the seam allowances a scant 1/4". Doing this allows the pocket to be the perfect size to hold your credit card and ID. <br />
<br />

I will definitely be making this bag again. I always have several grab bag type gift exchanges around the holidays. I plan on making a few of these bags for this purpose. <br />
<br />
Thank you!<br />

We are challenged to use embossing paste on our cards. <br />
<br />
If you aren't familiar with what embossing paste is, do a search. I actually had a jar of this that I bought a long time ago. I was more shocked that it wasn't dried-up. <br />
<br />
Originally, the stencil that I used was an entire present. But I was having trouble fitting it onto a card that I liked. So, I cut off the bow. <br />
