Kindle Cover

This is a cover for my daughter's Kindle.
Being that I'm such a great Mom and all...I let her choose the fabric. Ok...She was drawn to the purple polka-dot fabric...I strongly suggested the other fabrics. I even kept changing my her mind. I wanted to use my ever increasing stash of scraps and remnants.
I have been in a creative rut lately. I try to sew or paper craft and don't know where to begin or what to make.  Then I get interrupted and have several other non-fun projects to complete...like cleaning--blech!  Does it ever end?  LOL!
Enjoy!

Hambo Hoedown

Hello!  I'm baaaaack!  I guess I took a little bit of a break--where did the time go?   I haven't really made cards in a while.
This week I used Frog Prince Digital Image from Hambo Stamps.
Have a great weekend!

Houston Half Marathon

Here is my BFF and me at mile 13.  Only .1 miles to go!  Despite several injuries throughout our training, we were able to FINISH!!!  Since this was our first race, our goal was just to finish.
It was a cold, dreary, rainy,  windy, and rainy day.  Did I mention rainy?  After the race I was dripping wet from the rain.  I had to ring out my clothes.  Thank goodness for moisture wicking!  After a while I didn't feel the cold unless we stopped running.  Then I would get cold.
I was very impressed at how organized this race was.
After crossing the finish line we were given a banana and a bottle of water.  It was the "best banana ever!"  or so I heard a few times!  LOL!
I have felt a little lost since my training sessions have not been as long as they were a few weeks before the race.  I have still managed to keep my same schedule...(sprints, cross train, maintenance run...) I've just been running less miles.  I did sign up for a 4 mile race that will be Feb. 16.
As for future races???  Well, I guess we'll see...

Glenda Clutch

This is made with the Glenda Clutch pattern from Bags The Modern Classics by Sue Kim.  She also has a web site filled with great patterns.  IThinkSew
This was very quick to put together.  I was able to use scraps.  I also added the pink handle.  I cut a piece of fabric 2" by 14".  I fused interfacing to the back.  Then I folded it down the center.  Opened it and folded each long raw edge into the center again.  Then folded and edge stitched down each side.  I attached the handle to the side of the bag.
I applied interfacing (Pellon 809) to both the front/back pieces and front/back lining pieces.  Also to the front and back of the flap.  I did this because the fabric I used was very thin.
For the flower, I played with some scraps.
Here is a pic of the inside.  I added a pocket by cutting another lining piece then folding the raw edge down a few times and sewing across the top.  Then I basted it to the back side of the lining piece.  I sewed down the center to divide the pocket.
Have a great day!

Bunco

So, it may seem like I've dropped off the face of the earth, but I'm still around.  Just been busy.   I'm not sure what exactly I've been doing.  Well, I guess there was some company and the training and running the half marathon.  Other than that....???
The ladies in my neighborhood play Bunco.  I was asked to make a die that can be tossed around for "fuzzy dice."  This is 6"square.  It's a kinda like a beach ball sized die.  I guess we'll see how it works at our next Bunco game.
I made this out of pink felt and white fleece for the dots.  I got to use my new sewing machine.  It is awesome!

Queen of Hearts Handbag

When I see a bag that somewhat resembles a bowling bag style...I get a childhood flash back.  It's a long story but perhaps my Mom and my Auntie N. might remember their bowling bag situation.  :)
So, despite them, I was intrigued by this pattern.  There are two versions of this bag included in the pattern.  A bowling bag and a handbag (that fits over the shoulder).  I do have to say that my bag didn't really turn out like I thought it would.  I thought the front pleats would be different.  I guess it's a little difficult to tell from just the illustration that is on the pattern.  Queen of Hearts Bowling Bag and Handbag Pattern by Hot Patterns.
I also wasn't too happy with how the instructions have you construct the inside.  So, I changed it up a bit to have my seams on the inside of the bag vs showing on the inside of the bag.  It was tricky and involved some hand sewing.  I probably couldn't explain what I did either.

The flower was just me playing around with fabric.

If this is your first time making a bag I strongly suggest that you DO NOT start with any of the Hot Pattern Bag Patterns.    I LOVE the style of almost all of the bags but I've found that many times instructions are left out or unclear.  I still continue to buy the patterns, even though they are on the expensive side, because of the great design.  You'll have to be able to take the pattern pieces and know how to construct the bag  by yourself.  I've spent many hours pulling out hair, near tears, with sores on my fingertips from pin pricks while sewing trying to follow the given instructions.  My seam ripper becomes my best friend/worst enemy.  When I'm finished, the bags are great! I almost always get compliments on the bags I make using a Hot Patterns-Pattern.  :)

Go Lightly Crochet Bag

This crocheted bag is a smaller version of this market bag.  The pattern can be found at www.lionbrandyarn.com.  The pattern is Golightly Tote (Pattern # 90136AD).
I was playing around and decided to try something new. I added the orange/white stripe. I don't really love how the stripe turned out...reminds me of the 80's...or so I'm told.  It was fun to play.
I decided I wanted to crochet a BIG flower for this bag.  I found one in this book.  I, however, had to make a few changes.

I do love how the flower turned out.
Once again, I used Sugar N' Cram yarn:  light blue for the bag, tangerine for the stripe and flower, and white for the stripe and inside of the flower,  green for the leaves.
Enjoy your day!
