Bike Lunch Bag

Hello!
I have been busy making several different types of lunch bags.  I have been using the patterns from the book "Lunch Bags!"  So, you can prob. expect more lunch bag posts in the near future.  :)
I am actually shocked at how much I'm enjoying this book.  These bags are fun to make.  The book contains more than just lunch bag patterns.  There are a few sandwich wrap and baggie type patterns, too.  You might recall this  crocheted apple sweater.  Yep! It's in there.
I have to admit that I saw this book but didn't really think I'd use it.  What sold me on the book is that I read it had a pattern for a bike bag.  I have a cruiser bike and I SOOO want a basket for it.  But, my bike has a big spring on the font.   A basket won't fit.  When I read about the bag for the bike...I NEEDED this book.
Here is the bike lunch bag I made.

Straps are arranged to attach to the handle bars.

Insulated Tote

I sure am having fun with all the insulated bags.  I came across a great pattern for an insulated shopping bag for frozen groceries.  I HAD to make one.  The original pattern used a velcro closure.  However, I had a zipper that was burning a hole in my stash...LOL!  (Oh! All right....I'm not skilled at putting zippers in, but I'm learning. For some reason I felt a strong need to use this zipper.)  So, I took that insulated shopping bag idea and combined a few different techniques from different patterns and online tutorials, changed the deminsions to fit the fabric I had (and zipper--I don't know why but I never feel comfortable cutting a zipper...strange but true.), then made my bag.

Look at that zipper closure!
We use the insulated bags to take family lunches for road trips and/or field trips. I used outdoor canvas for the bag and rip stop nylon for the inside.
Have a great day!

Insulated Lunch Bag

The lunch bag pattern is from the book "Lunch Bags!"  I made this as a gift for my sister-in-law.  She recently graduated from medical school.  I figure she'll have to "brown bag" it for a while so that she can pay off her student loans.  At least now she can take her lunch in style.  The flower I created and added seperately.  There is not a pattern in the book for it.
I like that his bag kind of looks like a doctor bag.  I noticed that after I made it.

This bag has a wide opening and an extra long zipper.  It is also insulated.
Since I like to make cards, I had to make her a card that matches her lunch bag.  :)

Lunch anyone?

I have posted about this Lunch Bags! book before. On this Apple-A-Go-Go post. I recently made an insulated lunch bag with a pattern from the book.  I didn't realize that I'd enjoy this book as much as I have.  I am in the process of making a few more lunch bags from this book.
YOU'RE IN LUCK!  I was searching for something entirely different when I came across the pattern I used.  It is offered for free.  (see bottom of post for link)
While making this bag, I learned a few new things like:  how to quilt with my machine (I looked at her picture and guessed since, I've never quilted before), that a needle can break with only one stitch, that I've wasted too many hours trying to set grommets with a machine press or hammer--I spotted a metal mallet in the garage and WOW! it worked like butta!,  finally,  I can actually dull a needle (I usually break them before they have a chance to get dull.)

Here is the lunch bag I made.

It has a closure strap and a cute loop handle.

Here is a back view with an insulated drink pouch. (There should be a toggle on the elastic cord but the one I bought was too small. I will have to go on the hunt for antoher one.)
Inside there is a pocket to place a freezer thing--I know very techie of me, huh?--or to use for whatever.

Here are a few accessories that I made to coordinate with this lunch bag.

Sandwich wrap folded up.

This is the inside of the sandwich wrap.  It is made from rip stop nylon so it is water resistant.

These are velcro closure bags. Made from 100% cotton (inside)

I had to make another apple sweater.  Yep, it still makes me laugh.

Click here for a link to the pattern that I used (it's in the book). About 3/4 of the way down in the post you'll see
"And you are going to be happy with your cool, new, insulated lunch bag very soon as well. Click here to download the project instructions for Debbie Hogan’s lunch bag. Happy sewing!"

Enjoy your day!

The winners will be announced on the Hoedown blog, as well as on the Hambo company blog, Talk to the Ham, on Wednesday, May 25. Best of luck to everyone!

Phew!  Now on to other business!
Here are the projects I created:

This pic is kinda a group photo, if you will.  (Sorry, it was breezy when I was trying to take the pic.)
Can you guess what movie I chose?  NO?  Well, actually, I chose a series of movies that center around five adventurous puppies.   My kids love these movies because they have cute golden retriever puppies in them.  I'll refer to them as the Buddie Movies.   These are the titles (and links): Air Buddies  Snow Buddies, Space Buddies, Santa Buddies, and my kids tell me there is one more coming out soon, Treasure Buddies

To create my projects, I used the Doghouse Set digital image from Hambo Stamps found here.  What a cute set!  The dog image reminds me of our golden retriever.

As I mentioned earlier, the movies are about five pups that go on adventures.  The five "characters" are:  Buddah:  He likes to meditate, MudBud-always gets dirty--sounds like my own golden retriever, Budderball-likes to eat-I can relate to that.:)--also very much like my golden, RoseBud-only girl pup and she is into fashion, and B-Dawg-is the "rapper" dog.  I created projects to represent each pup.

First up is Buddah:

Buddah's Beach Bag
For Buddah,  I made a beach bag because I thought the beach would be a good place to meditate.   I printed out Hambo's digital images,  Dog House Set, on to a t-shirt transfer then ironed it to the canvas pocket.  The fabric of the bag is made from indoor/outdoor canvas.  The free pattern and tutorial for this beach bag can be found here.  I love it because this bag can hold 4 beach towels and more!

MudBud:
MudBud--he is muddy.
For Mudbud, I cut out a shaker box using Cricut Tags, Bags, Boxes & More Cartridge.  I used the Paper Pups Cartridge to cut out the dog bones.  I used Hambo's Doghouse Set to decorate.

Budderball:
Budderball's Lunch Bag
Since Budderball LOVES to eat,  I made a BIG lunch bag.  Again, I printed the Doghouse Set images on to a t-shirt transfer, ironed it on to the canvas pocket.  The inside of this lunch bag is made from rip stop nylon to make it easy to clean spills.  The pattern for the lunch bag can be found in this book.  The pocket is not part of the pattern.

RoseBud:

Rosebud luggage Tag
Since the dogs are always off to new adventures, I thought Rosebud could use a luggage tag.  I followed this quick and easy tutorial to make the luggage tag.  I love being able to use fabric scraps.  In real life I'm going to put this on my daughter's lunch bag.

Rosebud Card
This is a card I made for Rosebud.  In the movies, she often has a flower in her ear.  My real life dog ate one of her flowers before I glued it down. LOL! Could that be considered life imitating art?  Or maybe, life eating art?   She (my real life dog) is combination of Budderball-will eat anything and Mudbud-it's not long after she has a bath that she is muddy/dirty/stinky.  When we go running she always heads for the puddles.

Last but not least B-Dawg:

Bling
For B-Dawg, I figured he needed lots of bling.  So, I made a clip board with lots of bling.  I cut the clip board with Cricut Fabulous Finds Cartridge.  I printed the Doghouse Set images.
I hope you enjoyed your visit.  Come back soon!

Now, dance on over to Judy at  http://jarfullofjoy.blogspot.com/  for another great movie scene.

Apple-A-Go-Go

How do you like this apple?
Ok, it's not an apple but, it works.
I don't crochet much. I am a beginner.
I remember my Grandma teaching me to crochet when I was a child. I made a scarf for my Barbie Doll.
Many, many moons later I got the bug to try crocheting again. I bought one of those teach yourself to crochet kits. I actually made a few flowers and a baby blanket for a friend.
My crocheting stash sat untouched for a few years. Ok, my kids got into it several times and scattered things around. So, maybe untouched isn't the correct term.
The pattern is from this fun book Lunch Bags! There are all kinds of patterns for...yep, lunch bags! They are sewing patterns. This is the only crochet pattern.
So, the other night I got the urge to crochet the Apple-A-Go-Go. 'Cuz who knows...that apple (or in my case orange) might get cold!
When I showed Matt he said, "What on earth would possess you to create that?" My response, "Because, I can." Guess what he's getting for his birthday. (insert evil laugh)
I sat down last night and made this two color apple sweater. (That is soo funny to me...apple sweater!) Anyway, it is my first time using two different colors on a project. YEAH!
We have sunshine again today! Yippee!!
Have a great day!
