Go Lightly Crochet Bag

This crocheted bag is a smaller version of this market bag.  The pattern can be found at www.lionbrandyarn.com.  The pattern is Golightly Tote (Pattern # 90136AD).
I was playing around and decided to try something new. I added the orange/white stripe. I don't really love how the stripe turned out...reminds me of the 80's...or so I'm told.  It was fun to play.
I decided I wanted to crochet a BIG flower for this bag.  I found one in this book.  I, however, had to make a few changes.

I do love how the flower turned out.
Once again, I used Sugar N' Cram yarn:  light blue for the bag, tangerine for the stripe and flower, and white for the stripe and inside of the flower,  green for the leaves.
Enjoy your day!

Bobble Blanket

Sorry, it appears I took most of the month of November off.  I have been busy, and neglected the blog.
Here is a blanket I finished last spring. If you make one please share.  Thanks!
Ever since I saw this post.  I wanted needed to make a bobble stitch blanket.  She even gives a quick bobble stitch tutorial here

If I would have paid attention to this tutorial the sides of my blanket might have been more even...but I bet you didn't really notice, huh?  :)

I kind of made an educated guess using info. from the Tales From the Cuckoo Land Blog to make this blanket.
The size of mine turned out to be about 65" wide by 70" long
I used Lyon Brand Yarn Pound of Love 2 skeins of bubble gum, 2 skeins of light pink and black...stash.
Here is the pattern I used: disclaimer....this is my first time trying to explain crocheting. I am still somewhat of a beginner.  Please be nice.  Please note this is how I made this blanket...my bobbles are not even...down one side I have an extra stitch when compared to the other side.  If this bothers you please make adjustments.
For the bobble stitch I used: (*yo, insert hook in desired st, pull up one loop, yo, pull through 2 loops, repeat from * 4 times (there will be 5 loops on your hook), yo, pull through all 5 loops. sc in next st.

In color A:
Row 1:  168 Foundation Single Crochet's
Row 2: Ch 1, sc in each st across (168 single crochet's)
Row 3:  Ch 1, sc in each st across (168)
Row 4:  Ch 1, *7 sc, bobble stitch in nxt stitch, repeat  from * till end of row (note: at the end of the row I did 8 sc instead of 7 sc and then bobble stitch) (168)
Rows 5-7: Ch 1, sc in each stitch across (168)
Row 8:  Ch 1, 4 sc, bobble stitch in nxt st, *7 sc, bobble stitch in nxt st, repeat from * to end of row (again note: my bobbles are not perfectly off set....two rows of bobbles are closer together. At the end of the row I had 3 sc)
Rows: 9-11 repeat rows 5-7
Row 12:  repeat row 4
Rows 13-15 repeat rows 5-7
Row 16: repeat row 8
I continued this pattern until I had a total of 20 bobble rows.  I finished that section with 3 rows of single crochet
Switch to color C (black-color c) and did 3 sc rows.
Switch to color B (lt pink-color b) and did 3 rows of sc, then bobble row (continuing pattern above) until I had 16 bobble rows, then finished with 3 sc rows,
Switch to black, did 3 rows of sc,
Switch back to dark pink (color A) start w/ 3 rows of sc...then crochet a total of 12 bobble rows (following pattern above) finish with 3 rows sc
Switch to Black 3 rows sc
Switch to lt pink (color b) 3 rows of sc, then 8 bobble rows (following pattern above), finishing with 3 rows of sc.
I edged my blanket using the three colors in my blanket.
Let me know your thoughts and if you have any questions

ENJOY!

Hambo Hoedown #90-Toaster

A Toast to TIM!

Ahhh!  It's one of my FAVORITE times of the week!  Hambo Hoedown!!!! This week we get to toast Tim, the wonderful illustrator of Hambo Stamps.  Every week that I participate in Hambo Hoedown, I look forward to the e-mail with  Hambo Stamps new digital image.  It ALWAYS makes me smile.

Tim...Happy Birthday!  May you have many more happy birthdays!

This week's challenge is to make a project that shows:
1.  Burned edges OR using the soot technique
OR
2.  Checkerboard OR gingham patterns.

I chose to used burned edges.

Yep, this was a burn the house down kind of fun challenge!   Thank goodness I had the smarts enough to stand by the sink to catch my paper on fire.  The water came in very handy.  :)

This week's fun digital image is "Toaster" by Hambo Stamps.

Enjoy your week!

Lola Goes Shoppin'

This is such a fun pattern.  Have I mentioned that I really love Izzy & Ivy patterns? also see this post.  :)
I always carried small purses, until I had kids.  Now, even though they are older, I guess I'm still the designated "pack mule."  I find it's faster and easier if I  just cram everything I need, as well as the things they hand me while we're out, if I have a bigger bag.  This one does the job perfectly.
The pattern is Lola Goes Shoppin'. This is a good sized bag.  On my bag, I made the bow a little too big...that was my own doing...not the pattern  instructions.  This was also my first encounter with bias binding.
There is a great zipper pocket on the back of the bag.
As usual for an Izzy & Ivy pattern, the instructions were clear and easy to understand.  It also includes full sized paper pattern pieces.  I've grown to dislike tissue patterns.

I pulled out all the neon cardstock I had and used it on this card.  :)

HYCCT-Day #30

HYCCT1230-Cork, Canvas, or Clay

As the name suggests, we get to use cork, canvas, or clay on our cards.
I chose to use cork.  I was trying to think of how to use the cork.  All I could think of is that it's used for some bulletin boards.  So, I attempted to make a card that looked like a bulletin board complete with Polaroid pictures and a note to self.  LOL!

Supplies: Cork--stash
Stamps:  Art Impressions-T-1518 Front, T-1696 Front, Basic Grey-To Do's Stamp, Cornish Heritage Farms-Lined Paper

HYCCT1228-Clean and Simple Statement

Today's challenge is to make a CAS card with a word or sentiment as the focal point.

I had a very busy day.  When I sat down to make a card I can't believe how fast it went.  I wasn't thrilled with how my card turned out.  I decided to make another.  :)

Here are my cards (in no particular order):

On both cards, I used stamps from Stampers Anonymous, Tim Holtz Collection.  The top card I believe is "Life's Possibilities" Set and the bottom card is "Patterned Pieces Set."
Have a great one!

The stripes are made from stamps from PTI's Faux Ribbon set.

Hambo Hoedown-Tooth Fairy

HAAAA!  This week's new Hambo Stamps digital image "Tooth Fairy" is so funny!  Love it and the sentiments!

The challenge this week is to use hexagons.  I do not own a hexagon shape so I had to ad-lib a little.  As you can tell my free-hand cutting ability is about as good as my drawing ability...my drawn stick figures ALMOST resemble stick figures.
The banner is a Coluzzle shape.  Yep, I still use my Coluzzle even though it is no longer made.
Enjoy your week!

HYCCT-Day #24

HYCCT1224-Hugs & Kisses

Today we are challenged to use the stamping technique of kissing.  I love the look of this technique but I never use it.  Hummmm....I'll have to remember for next time.

I used the technique for the alphabet.  It is a stamp set from Yvonne Albritton Designs.  I have had this set a very long time.  I tried looking online but was unable to find out much info. about this company.  I believe I bought this at the one and only stamp show I went to probably about 12 years ago.
On the "kiss" sentiment I kissed the alphabet inked in green with swirls inked in brown from Tim Holtz stamp set Urban Grunge from Stampers Anonymous.
On the "hug" sentiment, I inked the alphabet in brown and kissed it with Polka-Dot Basics Stamp Set from PTI.
I punched the letters out using a 1 1/2" circle punch.
The "&" is Sizzix Alphabet Bozo.
The boy image is Kissing Edwin from Magnolia Stamps.
Have a great day!

HYCCT-Day #18

Today's challenge, Vital Signs, is to be inspired by one or more of the four vital signs to make a card.  Since I kept forgetting, the four vital signs are:  heartbeat (pulse), temperature, blood pressure, and breathing.  I just had a "milestone" birthday and suddenly I have C.R.S or my parents refer to it as O.F. disease.  The O stands for old...the F...well, guess! :)  Honestly...it happened overnight.  LOL!

I had several different ideas pop in my head for this challenge.  But, nothing was working.  Then I remembered this wonderful card that was in the Split Coast Stampers HYCCT Gallery.  It was all white!  So, I copied that idea to make a winter card.

I also used glitter!  I was afraid of glitter until the sparkle challenge a few days ago.  Now, I'm stuck on glitter...and glitter is stuck on me.  :)

Here is my card:
Supplies Used:
Embossing Folder: CuttleBug-Swiss Dots
Dies: Sizzix-Snowflake #2, Snowflake #2 they both say this on the pkg.  HA!  One--the smaller one-- is VERY old...from when Sizzix first came out, Girls are Weird Alphabet
Punch: Target.

Hope You Can Cling To-Day #17 and Hambo Hoedown #87

Hello!

Well....I don't know how well I pulled it off, but I managed to combine two challenges in this card.  I was having fun...playing.

Today's HYCCT challenge is to use a decorative edge.  I hope that the beaded circles from Spellbinders would be considered a decorative edge.  If not, I used some pinking shears I have that are from Provo Craft...had these scissors a looong time.

This week's digital image from Hambo Stamps is "Cells."  Oh my goodness!  I LOVE the sentiments that are on this digi.  This week's Hambo Hoedown Challenge is to use circles.

Ok, are you ready?
Here is my card:
LOL!  The wind kept blowing as I was trying to take this pic.
I used Spellbinders Beaded Circles and Circles to make this easel card.  I also used some pinking scissors to cut the "Cellebrate Life!" sentiment.  The cells are attached to transparency circles that I die cut.  I used curled up paper covered wire so that this can be smashed down to put in an envelope.
Enjoy your day!

Hope You Can Cling To-Day #16

Wow!  Where has this month gone?  I guess it goes fast when you're having fun.

Today's challenge is Two Times the Fun.  So, we are to use two of things but slightly different.

Here is my card:
I used:  two types of paper (polka dot and lined paper), two different colors of ink (brown, blue), two types of stitching, (straight and zig zag), two different kinds of stamps (image, sentiment), Two different colors of cardstock (kraft, white).

Enjoy your day!

Hope You Can Cling To-Day #15 and MOJO Monday

Hello!  Today there are two challenges at HYCCT.  I used today's MOJO Monday sketch on my first challege.
Here is today's Mojo Sketch:
HYCCT1215A-Peaceful Pink
Our challenge is to " create a card that evokes peace, calm, and serenity with a touch (or splash!) of pink. no pressures, no requirements other than to just enjoy, embrace, and have fun while you are making it!"
Here is the card I made:
For this card I used Cricut Straight from the Nest Cartridge.  Honestly, my Cricut hasn't had this much of a workout in a very long time.  :)  The stamp is from Studio G--just for you.

HYCCT1215B-Shine It Out!
For this challenge we get to make it SPARKLE!  I have to admit, I don't make my cards sparkle very often.  I think I'm afraid of glitter.  LOL!  It's such a mess and I get it everywhere.  However, I sure do love sparkly cards.
Here is my card:
This is actually brighter than the picture shows.  It is allllll glitter.  I did the Xyron trick where you run a piece of cardstock through Xyron then you cover up things that you punch out (in my case the circles) place one color of glitter.  Then you uncover the other areas you'd like glitter and apply a different color of glitter.  I then took my remaining Xyron'ed piece of CS and used punches then removed the sticky covering and added glitter.
Enjoy!

Hope You Can Cling To-Day #14

I ran out of time yesterday...didn't get this posted.

Day 14's challenge was to use text on your card.  Since I LOVE the look of text, this should have been easy.   Well, I have always wanted to use pennants on my card but I can never figure out how to use them.  So, I searched sketches that would work and found one at Got Sketch?.  It is sketch #144.
Supplies:
Stamps:  Penny Black-Lovin' & Huggin', Cornish Heritage Farms-Vintage Text, Studio G-Friend
Dies: Sizzix-Dot's and Scallops, Spellbinders-Scalloped Square
Decorative Scissors-Provo Craft-Scallop
Cricut Cartridge-Straight from the Nest (pennant)

Hope You Can Cling To-Day #13

Today's challenge is to find inspiration in a poem by Emily Dickinson.

I found my inspiration in when she wrote about feathers...represented in the bird with fancy feathers and the bird is sitting on feathers.
Enjoy!

Hope You Can Cling To-Day #12

Happy Friday!

Today's challenge is "Start Spreading the News!"  Which is yet another song that gets stuck in my head.  Honestly, this is one of the BEST songs to sing as loud as possible (maybe off-key-heh heh heh).  Anywho, we get to create a card inspired by a song from a musical or movie.

So, I don't know why, but the movie Beaches came into my head.  I guess I originally thought that I'd make a card using some cute friendship stamps.  So, I looked over the soundtrack for this movie and saw the song Otto Titsling.  Now, that's about perfect.  Click here to see lyrics and a video clip:http://www.stlyrics.com/lyrics/beaches/ottotisling.htm.  The movie is about friendship and the song is about...well....a bra inventor.  LOL!

I searched and searched for a bra image.  I didn't find any that would work for me.  So, I searched for a card shape that might work.  I found this bra template.
Here is my card:

Supplies:
Template: (see above)
Dies: Sizzix-Script, My Favorite Things-Rolled Rose die
Punches:  Ek Success-Scalloped Border, McGill-leaf

Hope You Can Cling To-Day 11

Happy day #11 of HYCCT!  I've been having so much fun playing along with all the fun challenges.

Today's challenge was an inspiration challenge using the Monster Mash song.  This song always gets stuck in my head....I usually have to do the Monster Dance along with it.  This is really something nobody---including my family---likes to see.  :)  You know that doesn't stop me.  I pop out of dark corners and start singing and dancing "Monster Mash!"

This is the card I made for today's challenge:
Supplies used:
Stamp: Cookie Scrap-"Frankenstein"
Embossing folders: Cuttlebug--one is Swiss Dots...the other I don't know the name of
Dies:  Sizzlits-"Girls Are Weird" Alphabet
Embellishments-JoAnn Scrap Essentials-Silver Screw Head Snaps

Halloween Decorations

I have been fun playing around and making some Halloween decorations.  For the past several years, I haven't really done much to decorate for Halloween...or any other holiday either....really.  This year I really wanted to decorate!  I searched the Internet to find ideas and patterns.  I didn't find exactly what I was looking for, but I did find pieces here and there.  So, I borrowed some things and created my own.

I went to a few different fabric stores trying to find the fabric similar to what was in my head.  I struggled.  Finally I got a few yards of an orange polka-dot (go figure...me...polka-dot) and a grey/black fabric with swirls.

Here is what I created:

I've already shared the Witches Hat and pattern with you in this post here.

I found this great tutorial for smashed witches legs here.  She was kind enough to include a pattern for some awesome witches boots.  I used that boot pattern.  However, I cut pieces of fabric for the legs instead of using tube socks.  I ended up hand sewing the legs to the boots. I used orange tulle and some black fabric scraps for the dress.  I sewed the legs and the skirts together then sewed binding to the top edge.

On this banner I was just guessing on how to put this together.  I first found the letters I wanted to use to spell "Halloween."  I used chipboard letters I had...from my papercraft stash.  I traced these chipboard letters in reverse on the back of Steam-A-Seam 2 sheets.  Ironed the sheets to the back of the black fabric and cut them out.  To make the banner pattern I used my Cricut "Pretty  Pennants" Cartridge to help me form the pattern.  I cut the pennant out of paper on my Cricut Machine,  Then I used this paper pattern to cut all the rectangles out of orange fabric with pinking shears. I ironed the cut letters to the front of one of the pennants.   I placed two pennants, wrong sides together, then used a zig-zag stitch along the sides and bottom inward point.   Then I made binding out of purple fabric.  To figure the length of binding I needed, I took the size of my pennant along the top (each one is 6"wide times 9 pennants) then I added 4 inches for swag.  So, 6"wide multiplied by 9 letters is 54" plus 4" is 58".  Then I guessed on how much to add to each end to make ties.  I used 36" on each side.  (36 times 2 is 72")  so the total length I needed was (58" plus 72") 130".  I cut several pieces to get this length then sewed them together until I had a piece that was 2" wide by 130"long.  I used my handy binding iron tool where it pulls each raw edge in to meet the center.  I then turned in and ironed one short end in around 1/2".  I measured in 36"(for tie) then placed a pin to know where to start pinning the  pennants. (make sure you are spelling correctly (LOL!)  I pinned mine backwards and had to re-pin).    I tried to place the pennants 1/4" apart.  When all my lettered pennants were pinned I measured from the last pennant to 36" then I cut off 1/2" from that point.  I turned in and ironed the short end of the other end.  I then sewed the binding to the pennants.  Then I folded the binding in half and top stitched along the entire edge of the purple binding.

I have one last decoration to share.  I've used this for several years.  I had a very old Navy uniform from when my husband was enlisted.  I stuff it with paper and add the Jack-O-Lantern head...it lights up.

I typed this together quickly...if you have questions please comment.

Hope You Can Cling To-Day #10 and Hambo Hoedown

Happy Wed.!
I was able to combine two FUN challenges!  WHOO HOOO!
Today's HYCCT challenge is titled "Ship Shape."  We get to make a card that is shaped.  I made this card in the shape of Hambo Stamps digital image "Walrus."
For this week's Hambo Hoedown Challenge we get to use watercolors!  I have to admit I had fun playing with the watercolors.  It has been a while since I've pulled these out.  Plus, the Walrus image is perfect to use watercolors with.

I hand cut the sign.  That silver thing is a tiny nail head.....I used a very unloved nail die  from Sizzix and cut the bottom part off.
Laters alligators!

Hope You Can Cling To-Day #6

The title of today's challenge is Three Dies/Punches and a Sentiment.

The title explains it all.  We are to use three or more dies/punches or an electric cutting machine and a sentiment to make a card.

I used my Cricut Machine to cut most of the images and sentiment.  The sentiment is from Walk in My Garden.  Everything else is from Straight from the nest except the clouds...I free hand cut those.  Have a great day!

Hoedown #85-Bailey Devil

Oh, Bailey Dog is too cute!  I've always said they {kids, dog} are cute for a reason....

This week's Hambo Hoedown Challenge is to use sparkle.

I used glitter glue for Bailey's Devil costume.  This week's image is "Bailey Devil" digital image from Hambo Stamps.

Enjoy your week!

Hope You Can Cling To-Day #2

First of all Happy Birthday to my much OLDER brother!  :)

For today's challenge we were to make a pretty wrapping for a cupcake.  Since the purpose of this event is to send cards.  We were to make a gift card or something to go with it that we could mail in to the cancer center.

I do love to bake cupcakes, however, when I bake with the intent of my stuff turning out pretty, there is usually some type of disaster and it looks horrible.  Notice the beautiful cupcake I made bought at the store.  :)  I needed desserts for our neighborhood's National Night Out Celebration tonight.  I was running low on time.  So, I took the easy route and bought goodies for both.  LOL!

Doesn't that cupcake look delish?  It may be hard to tell from the picture but there is a cookie sticking out from that frosting.  YUMMM!
To make to box, I traced a box from I kit I got several years ago onto pink cardstock. To hold the cupcake I made a little raised holder with a circle punched in the center and glued it to the bottom of my box.
I die cut a scalloped square out of the front of my box to make a window.
The sentiment and cupcake is from the Cricut Cartridge Straight From The Nest.
On the card I stamped Cornish Heritage Farm's "Vintage Text" in white ink onto the craft cardstock.  Then used my cut outs created from making the box.
Have a great eve!

Hope You Can Cling To-Day #1

It's that time again!  Time for Hope You Can Cling To!  I had such a blast playing along last year.
Here are my cards for the three challenges:
HYCCT1201A:Show What You're Made Of.

Here is a quote from the posting. "All I want you to do in this challenge is BE YOURSELF and tell me what it is in your description that your stamping style is made of."
So, for my card I pulled out a bunch of stamps that I love and used them in my card.
I love the looks of the vintage ads.  I used "Newspaper Ads" stamp from Cornish Heritage Farms.  I also love scrip writing.  For this I used  a stamp from Stampers Anonymous' "Urban Grunge" set...Tim Holtz Collection.
I LOVE polka-dots!  So, for the girls' dresses I used stamps from PTI's Polka-Dot Basics.
Now the image...LOVE this image!  It is Uptown Girls Victoria and Juliette's Night Out from Stamping Bella.  I am a girl that just wants to have fun. :)
I also used this week's Mojo Monday Sketch...because most days I just need to.

HYCCT1201B:For Kids Sake
For this card I used Cricut's Paper Pups Cartridge.  For the loopy edge I used a punch from Martha Stewart Crafts.  The stitching on the hug? is a stamp from PTI's Faux Ribbon Set.

HYCCT1201C:Ray of Hope
We were to use shades of grey with one color pop.
Stamps used are:Purple Onion Designs-Swirls, PTI-Out On A Limb.
